My family and I moved to The Woodlands 14 years ago after my sons finished high school. We were attracted here by the forests and the amenities of a modern master planned community. We have found the community to be thriving with all the benefits of the big city in a beautiful community. Over the years I have learned how well integrated the design of The Woodlands is, including the services and infrastructure that the MUDs and Woodlands Water provide.

I am a chemical engineer with 35 years of experience at a major chemical company working in the Research, Manufacturing and Engineering functions. My hands-on process and design experience is rare amongst MUD directors and has enabled me to contribute to improvements in our MUD. I’m finishing my second term as a director and in my terms I have developed an in-depth understanding of how our MUD operates.

At one time, many thought of this position as a “once-a-month” meeting job. But more involvement is needed to make improvements. I give more. The idea to run for MUD 46 was recommended to me by a respected community leader, while I was doing volunteer work on the Sterling Ridge Design Review Committee.

• I have a frugal attitude towards spending. But I am encountering a mood of limiting spending for infrastructure and certainly nothing additional for enhancements. I feel that we need to keep our part of The Woodlands up to its expected standard.
• We are on-track to retire our bond debt by 2030. Our debt service obligation has been reduced from $111M to 48M since 2016.
• We will be challenged with upcoming major costs for replacement of the 50-year old waste water plant and the longer-term replacement of old concrete-asbestos water pipe. These are currently operated and maintained by the SJRA but the expense is paid by the MUDs.

• I feel that the board needs to help accomplish resident requests – not expect extra justifications from them for their request.

• I believe MUD 46 information should be available on the web. Much has been added already – this was one of my first initiatives. See our website: https://woodlandswater.org/mud-46/

• Minimize subsidence by the use of treated surface water from Lake Conroe. I want to continue minimizing well water usage. When well water usage exceeds the aquifer recharge rate, subsidence occurs as the aquifer levels decline. I see that subsidence is especially an issue in MUD 46 near Spring Creek.

• Costs for replacement of aging SJRA infrastructure will be difficult to finance.
  • We expect high performance from SJRA assets, not cheap patch jobs that result in a decrepit operation (e.g., the replacement of the 50 year-old wastewater treatment plant is needed before the reliability declines significantly).
  • Challenge SJRA proposals wisely, not emotionally. I work to gain support for better alternatives.
